Little Green Books Review & Giveaway (5 winners) - Ends 5/28 CLOSED

Little Green Books is a new eco-friendly series from Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing Division. As our mission statement above explains, each book in this series will be devoted to educating children about the benefits of being green.

What sets our books apart from other "green" books is that in addition to the themes, the manufacturing of these books is also environmentally friendly. Our books are printed on recycled materials with vegetable or soy inks. This initiative will continue as the series progresses, from storybooks to cloth books to novelty board books. A unique, innovative new series, Little Green Books plant the seeds of eco-friendly consciousness at an early age so that we can grow a generation of earth-friendly readers.



The Review
I received four book to review and I have to tell you I love that they are made from recycled material and use fun ways to educate kids about taking care of the Earth.



“This Is Our World” covers different places that a child may visit: park, beach, school, garden then suggests ways the child can help keep it clean. Join the fun while learning to clean the air, reduce pollution, recycle, and more. Teaches them the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle mantra.

It has nine double-sided puzzle pieces that can be removed to make 2 different puzzles on the back page. I do wish they had somewhere to store the pieces after they take them out because they do not stay in very well after that.



Each page of "What Do You See?" has a little question written as a poem. Your child has to guess what endangered animal is hiding under the flap.

The first one says: "I'm black and white, but I don't moo. I'm a fussy eater who likes bamboo." The flap has a little bit of the animal exposed to help the child. Lift the flap to see if they guessed correctly. Did you guess right?

The story ends with asking “If we animals are to survive, we need someone’s help to stay alive. Who can it be? Who do you see? (turn page) IT’S YOU!



The "My First Garden" book is also a very important book it also shows the rewards of planting a garden. Children learn to dig up soil, plant a seed and water the seeds to make them grow. Each vegetable is a chance to teach colors to your child. At the end of the book they make homemade vegetable soup from the harvest!

What a great way to teach children about growing their own food to eat healthy.



"Easy to Be Green" offers a selection of “green” activities for older children.

It has tons of information about global warming, animal awareness, recycling and reuse, landfills and trash, and green cleaning. In between, there are coloring pages, mazes, puzzles and activities. This book is recommended for 8-11 year olds interested in learning about the environment.
